Coronation of the 86th Rose Queen
and Presentation of the Royal Court
Special Guest Performer: SHIRLEY JONES
Shirley sang "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" (Oklahoma!)
And "Till There Was You" (The Music Man)
Presented by Citizens Business Bank
Although Shirley was not due to perform until 1:30 in the afternoon, she was asked
to arrive around ten in the morning. We waited upstairs chatting and eating food for
several hours before being escorted down to the stage area. It was located in a very large
white tent on the lawn of the Tournament grounds. It was quite spectacular.
Stunning flower arrangements and lush green plants provided by florist Jacob Maarse filled the entire tent.
The lighting gave off a soothing lavender blue ambiance while guests were severed a delicious multi-item luncheon.
The main course was Lemon Marinated Grilled Chicken.
Marta Waller, News Anchor for KTLA television was the Master Of Ceremonies.
Ross Jutsum & The Brighter Side Singers performed several numbers.
These folks were not only wonderful singers, but they had a fabulously choreographed act.

Megan Chinen got to perform her first
official duty right after the ceremony on
October 30th. Her first act as the 2004 Rose Queen was to present a very large check to
The Red Cross of Southern California fire relief. All of the money will go to our brave firefighters
and their families and to the many who have suffered in the awful arson attack on California.
